Project Overview

Our goal is to develop an eye drop device that can deliver a single drop of medication while also preventing the flow of excess medication (streaming). Furthermore, this device should assist the user in placing the eye drop into the eye and accommodate the array of differently sized bottles that are used in eye drop medications. The device should also facilitate the squeezing of the bottle. We hope to reduce the cost of eye drop medication by administering a minimal amount with a high success rate of getting the eye drop into the eye.

Project Status

We have successfully created a prototype of our design. It is described in a detailed report, as found below ("Final Report"). We also presented this prototype at the poster presentation on April 30th. Our slides are also available below. Our prototype, along with a dimensioned CAD image, is presented here:

1 January 23 Received problem statement from client and assigned group roles
2 January 30 Teleconferenced with client and received a package of dropper bottles
3 February 6 Brainstormed design ideas and investigated dropper bottle designs
4 February 13 Finished PDS, continued brainstorming, and attempted to obtain more dropper bottles
5 February 20 Began writing paper and continued to brainstorm design ideas
6 February 27 Prepared and presented mid-semester PowerPoint presentation
7 March 5 Finished mid-semester paper
8 March 12 Meet with client to discuss mid-semester presentation and design options
9 March 19 Compiled a list of complications that need addressing before prototyping
10 March 26 Purchased parts from Cole Parmer and US Plastics
11 April 2 Received parts and molded the eye piece and paddles
12 April 9 Prototyped and tested glues
13 April 16 Completed the prototype and drew a CAD image
14 April 23 Presented the prototype
15 April 30 Completed the final report
