Project Overview

We are designing a positioning device for patients that undergo a lumbar puncture. Currently, there is no satisfactory equipment to support patients during the procedure. We must design a device that has a head rest, arm rest, and foot rest, all of which are adjustable to various patients’ needs.

2 September 15 Researched existing devices, gathered background on positioning for lumbar puncture, met with client
3 September 22 Discussed preliminary design ideas
4 September 29 Wrote a preliminary PDS, discussed design ideas
5 October 6 Met with client to discuss designs and gather data, discuss three design alternatives, started drawing designs
6 October 13 Created mid-semester presentation, finished drawing designs
7 October 20 Searched for components
8 October 27 Ordered desk-top massage chair, searched for foot rest
9 November 3 Continued searching for foot rest
10 November 10 Received desk-top massage chair, went shopping for base components
11 November 17 Bought PVC for the base, started making poster
12 December 1 Completed prototype and poster
13 December 8 Presented poster and prototype, wrote paper
