Project Overview

The hand hygiene indicator will be an independent spectrofluorometer that quantitatively measures fluorescence on the hand, which correlates to simulated bacterial contamination. The device will be portable and appropriate for use in the hospital environment in order to provide real-time, qualitative feedback to clinicians regarding their hand hygiene proficiency after using alcohol-based hand sanitizers. The hand hygiene indicator will be used along with the hand positioning device, which aligns and orients the hand, isolating specific problem areas in order to take uniform, reproducible, and accurate measurements.
