A client would like a device designed that will use a muscle contraction in a large muscle group (such as the thigh) to activate a vibrating pad. The device is specifically designed for a child suffering from Lyssencephaly, who does not currently exhibit frequent voluntary muscle control. It is hoped that the vibrations resulting from muscle contraction will provide positive reinforcement for further instances of muscle activity. Through this simple method the child can be taught basic stimuli/response interactions and allow some control over his own comfort. The design will be unobtrusive, and ergonomic as it will be incorporated into the child’s chair along with his feeding tube and apnea monitor.
Prototype is as complete as possible within the bounds of this project.
Pad and vibrator are being re-assembled into working devices.
Breadboard version of circuit is operational.
PCB circuit board has been assembled, but isn’t functional.
Final poster presentation has been performed.
Final paper completed and submitted.
