Project Title: Mouth Guard for Prevention of Bruxism
Team Members: Matt Harris, Tracy Stefonek
Client: Michael Conforti
Advisor: John G. Webster
Date: 10/10/01 - 10/17/01
Problem Statement: The goal of this project is to design a mouth guard that
will detect the teeth grinding of a patient during sleep. The device should
provide a gentle stimulus to the patient, causing the individual to unclench
or stop grinding his/her teeth.
Restatement of Team Goals:
1. Meet in small group (Matt and Tracy) and discuss the Product Design Specification (PDS), the Preliminary Design Report, and the Oral Presentation that are coming up.
2. Meet in large group to get feedback on rough draft of Preliminary Design Report.
3. Continue design process in partners.
a) Continue research/brainstorming on pressure switches, miniature
electrodes, mouth guards, bruxism
b) Continue to develop PDS
c) Collect and test materials, such as cheap football mouth guard and TENS unit
d) Continue to study reading material from client and advisor
e) Complete final draft of Preliminary Design Report and PDS
f) Prepare Midsemester presentation
g) Practice Midsemester presentation
Summary of Team Accomplishments:
1. Approximately half the group met and exchanged rough drafts of the preliminary
design report, Prof. Webster, Friday 10/12/01 at noon for 1 hour.
2. Met as a small group meeting (Matt and Tracy) Friday 10/12/01 at 1pm for
1 hour, then met on a daily basis between classes Mon 10/15 thru Wed 10/17 to
work on report and presentation.
Summary of Individual Accomplishments:
Matt
1. Attended a BSAC meeting
2. Research
3. Worked on Power Point Presentation
4. Worked on Preliminary Design Report
Tracy
1. Research
2. Continued working on preliminary PDS
3. Picked up NTI device from Dr. Clark at Total Care Dental (borrowed for presentation)
4. Worked on Power Point Presentation
5. Worked on Preliminary Design Report
Statement of Team Goals:
1. Meet in small group (Matt and Tracy) and finalize the Product Design Specification (PDS), the Preliminary Design Report, and to practice the Oral Presentation that are coming up.
2. Meet in large group to discuss final design choice.
3. Continue design process as a large group:
a) Decide on final design
b) Continue research/brainstorming on pressure switches, miniature
electrodes
c) Continue to develop PDS
d) Collect and test materials, such as cheap football mouth guard and TENS unit
