BME 200/300 Progress Report Week #11

Project Title: Mouth Guard for Prevention of Bruxism
Team Members: Kathleen Agard, Jackie Gerhart, Matt Harris, Carla Maas, Darcee Nelson, Julie Sauer, Tracy Stefonek
Client: Michael Conforti
Advisor: John G. Webster
Date: 11/14/01 - 11/21/01

Problem Statement: The goal of this project is to design a mouth guard that will detect the teeth grinding of a patient during sleep. The device should provide a stimulus to the patient causing he/she to unclench his/her teeth.

Restatement of Team Goals:
1. Purchase individual circuit parts for prototype.
2. Start building circuit on breadboard.
Summary of Accomplishments:

1. Determined silicon elastomer purchased is safe for use inside the mouth.
2. Bought 555 timers for circuit.
3. Started working on circuit- used a 555 timer to obtain the correct pulse rate.
4. Researched membrane switches.

Statement of Team Goals:

1. Start on background information for the paper.
2. Compile data taken so far for the paper.
3. Research circuits.
4. Continue work on circuit after thanksgiving.

Project Schedule:

10/ - 11/29 Work on final design
11/30 - 12/13 Make poster
12/14 Final presentation
12/17 - 12/23 Final meeting with advisor

Difficulties:

What we have done on the circuit so far has some bugs. May need a new 555 timer.

Activities:

Jackie: Called hardware stores for information on silicon elastomer, 1 hour; group meeting, 2 hours, notebook, .5 hours

Total Time: 3.5 hours

Carla: Team meeting, 2 hours; worked on webpage, 1 hour;

Total Time: 3 hours

Kathleen: Team meeting, 2 hours; worked on the circuit, 1.5 hours

Total Time: 3.5 hours

Darcee: Team meeting, 2 hours; worked on the circuit, 1.5 hours; e-mails/progress report, 45 min, finding specs for 555 timers, 15 min

Total Time: 4.4 hours

Matt: Team meeting, 2 hours; worked on the circuit, 1.5 hours; BSAC meeting, 1 hour; researched for switches online, .5 hours

Total Time: 5 hours

Tracy: Bought some 555 timers, and push-button switches from Radio Shack, 1
Hour; researched 555 timers, 1 hour; worked on circuit, 1.5 hours

Total Time: 3.5 hours

Julie: Team meeting, 2 hours; worked on circuit, 1.5 hours

Total Time: 3.5 hours
