Project Overview

Problem Statement:

Our design problem is to create a guidewire with a controllable stiffness, while being able to hold its shape. Our design should allow the surgeon to control the stiffness of the distal 10-20cm of the guidewire. This process should be reversible, at one point being stiffer than the catheter, and at the other being weaker. The process of changing the stiffness should not interfere with normal operating procedures, or present a hazard to the patient.
