Title: Mechanical Testing System Coupled with an Environmental Chamber for Hydrogels

Names: Garbriel Martinez-Diaz - communication liason, BSAC
Darcee Nelson - BWIG
Christy Palmer - team leader
Prof. Weiyuan John Kao - client

Date: 4/30/02 - 5/6/02

Problem Statement: To establish a procedure to make tension stencils, approved by the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), and to design and build an environmental chamber to be used with a mechanical testing system in order to test the mechanical properties of hydrogels.

Restatement of Team Goals: We will finalize the design for the vacuum removal of liquid from the environmental chamber and begin the construction of the chamber, assuming all the required parts are in on time. We will also begin to work on our final paper and poster.

Summary of Accomplishments: We finalized all components of our design, began the construction of our chamber, and started working on our final paper and poster.

Statement of Team Goals: We will finish building the environmental chamber, in addition to, finishing the final paper and poster.

Project Schedule:
1/21 - 2/8 Meet with client, begin literature/patent/product searches, and visit other labs on campus
2/9 - 2/15 Continue research, brain storming, and develop PDS for stencil procedure
2/16 - 3/8 Establish procedure to make stencils, develop PDS and design requirements for environmental chamber
3/8 Go to lab to make another stencil
3/9 - 3/14 Prepare mid-semester paper and presentation
3/15 Mid-semester presentation
3/16 - 3/22 Implement any changes for stencil procedure suggested by advisor and client
3/23 - 4/5 Brainstorm ideas for environmental chamber design
4/6 - 4/18 Develop design for environmental chamber
4/19 - 4/26 Plan construction of design and finalize details
4/27 - 5/3 Build environmental chamber
5/4 - 5/9 Test environmental chamber, prepare final poster presentation and paper
5/10 Final poster presentation
5/14 Final meeting with advisor
