Project Overview

This project's team members's are

Megan Toth (Team Leader)
Joel Roltroff (BESAC)
Herlina Moeljadi (Communications)
Brian Bye (BWIG)

Our client is Julie Kessel, Assistant Professor, Pedriatics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She works with extremely premature infants of 23-28 weeks gestation. These babies suffer from fluid and electrolyte imbalances in the first week of life with mortality and morbidity. It is important for the doctors and nurses to have accurate records of the infant's fluid levels. The goal of our project is to improve the method of urine collection in preterm infants for the analysis of potassium and sodium levels. The focus for improvement will be on the design of the diaper.

Project Status

We have formed an inner channel and determined the amount of cotton needed in the diaper. We have completed a prototype and some preliminary testing. We are also preparing our final paper along with a poster presentation on May 10th during the final class period.
