Various disorders of the eye require the injection of small amounts of medication (approximately 0.1 ml) directly into the eye. An example is the disorder known as "macular degeneration" in which the central region of the field of view is obscured, leaving the individual with clarity only in peripheral vision. To perform such injections, the clinician typically holds the syringe near the tip where the needle is attached (for stability purposes). Their other hand holds a cotton swab to steady the patient's eye, requiring a second individual to depress the plunger and deliver the medication. A modified syringe allowing a single clinician to perform this injection would be extremely useful for this treatment.

Design Specifications
Basic designs have been sketched out. Explorations into potential design problems and details are being explored. The group will continue to refine these potential solutions as it puts together the paper and mid-semester presentations. Preparations for the mid-semester presentations are underway. The written report and power-point presentation are being prepared.
