Project Abstract

CEE 618:  Great Lakes Coastal Processes:

Little Sand Bay

Little Sand Bay is located near the Apostle Islands at the northernmost tip of Wisconsin.  For protection of local fishing, tourist, and park ranger boats, a small harbor was built.  Quickly, the harbor became non-navigable as a steady influx of sand reduced water depths.  Continuous dredging of lake sand is expensive and annoying.  So, our class set out to determine the reasons for the high deposition rates.

Objectives...

bulletAssess the sediment budget for the harbor
bulletLearn and Implement techniques to study sediment budgets
