Nagesh Shukla, a PhD student of D-PLM Lab at University of Warwick was invited as a Dorothy Hodgkin guest in London Diplomatic Science Club event on 11th December 2007, which was organized by Government Office for Science, Department of Innovation, Universities & Skills, UK. This event was hosted by respectable Sir David King at Lancaster House, London.

 

Oak Phoomboplab, Ph.D. Student Presented his paper titled: "Process Yield Improvement Through Optimum Design of Fixture Layouts in 3D Multi-Stage Assembly Systems," during 2nd ASME International Conferance on Manufacturing Science and EAngineering, Atlanta, GA, US, October 15-17, 2007. 

Prakash, Ph.D. Student and Prof. Ceglarek presented their paper titled “Diagnosis of Product Failures in Ill-conditioned Multi-station Assembly System using Enhanced Piecewise Least Squares (EPLS) Method” during the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington, US, November 3-7, 2007.

Professor Dariusz (Darek) Ceglarek elected fellow of CIRP

Professor Darek Ceglarek has been elected to the grade of fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP; College International pour l'Etude Scientifique des Techniques de Production Mecanique) based in Paris, France. The fellow grade recognizes significant engineering achievements and contributions to the production engineering profession. CIRP is an internationally recognized organization of scientists and engineers dedicated to the common goal of promoting production engineering research worldwide. At present, CIRP has about 180 fellows worldwide representing some 40 different countries.

Ceglarek was invited to attend the WTEC Advanced Manufacturing Research and Technology Workshop sponsored by the National Science Foundation on June 6, 2006
This workshop has focused on the emerging global trend in manufacturing and on the nation s investment strategy in manufacturing. The objective of the workshop was to propose a research agenda for NSF's activities in manufacturing and associated sectors that will lay the foundation for assuring America's leadership in advanced manufacturing.

Dr. James Kong, DCS, Inc.  (Ph.D. '04, UW) presented his paper titled "Multiple Fault Diagnosis Method in Multi-Station Assembly Processes Using State-Space Model and Orthogonal Diagonalization Analysis" during the 2005 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Orlando, FL, November 5-11, 2005.  The paper is co-authored with Ramesh Kumar, Suren Gogineni and Ying Zhou from DCS, Inc., Jijun Lin and Prof. Ceglarek from UW-Madison and Prof. Huang (Ph.D. '04, UW) from the University of  Massachusetts,

Kamal Mannar, Ph.D. student, presented his paper titled "Feedback-to-Design Based on Product Field Defects," and Prof. Wenzhen Huang ( Ph.D. '04, UW) from the University of  Massachusetts presented his paper titled "Model Complexity Reduction in Stream-of-Variation Analysis for Compliant Sheet Metal Assembly," during the 2005 CIRP International Seminar on Computer Aided Tolerancing, Tempe, AZ, April 10-12, 2005..  Both papers are co-authored with Prof. Ceglarek.
ISyE PROFESSORS TO STUDY USE OF MULTI-SENSORS NETWORK TECHNOLOGY IN QUALITY CONTROL OF MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS

Industrial and Systems Engineering Professors Darek Ceglarek and Shiyu Zhou were recently awarded a $699,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to fund a research program on "Multi-sensor planning, integration and analysis for dimensional quality control of complex manufacturing processes." The project is a collaborative effort with the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and Dimensional Control Systems in Troy, Michigan.

 
CEGLAREK NAMED PROGRAM CHAIR OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Industrial and Systems Engineering Associate Professor Darek Ceglarek has been appointed program chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers? 2006 Design for Manufacturing and the Life Cycle (DFMLC) Conference.  The ASME DFMLC is the main international forum for the exchange of technical and scientific information on the theory and practice of DFX and product life-cycle management (PLM) including DFMA, GD&T and integration of CAD/CAM in product life-cycle, production systems modularity, convertibility, diagnosability, reconfigurability and reusability, as well as  product field performance. The conference will feature tutorials and workshops, keynote and invited speakers, and papers presented in lecture format and interactive presentation sessions, in diverse areas of DFX and PLM.  It will be held as part of ASME's 2006 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences & Computers and Information in Engineering Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 10-13, 2006.

IIE STUDENT CHAPTER EARNS GOLD AWARD

The UW-Madison student chapter of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), led by it's presidents Travis North (2003), Alex Bredemus (2004) and Thomas Best (2005) and advised by Associate Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering Darek Ceglarek, recently won a Gold Award in the 2005 IIE Chapters Recognition Competition. The University Chapter Recognition Award recognizes chapter improvements and progress. Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards are given based upon points scored in several diverse areas, including strategic planning, outreach activities and participation in regional events. The IIE Society has 153 student chapters located in 11 countries in three continents. Outside of US the IIE students chapters are also in Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Hong Kong, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.

 
ISyE PROFESSORS TESTIFIED BEFORE USCAR DIGITAL VIRTUAL TOOLS TASK GROUP ON 4TH OCTOBER 2005

Professor Ceglarek  and Professor Zhou was invited to testify before USCAR Digital Virtual Tools Task Group on 4th October 2005 ,  on the current state of the research in the area of modeling flexible parts.  Among the invitees were three international universities and major CAD/CAM software companies. The United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) is the organization of DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors, which was formed in 1992 to further strengthen the technology base of the domestic auto industry through cooperative research.  Among those representing USCAR were senior management representatives of the three OEMs.
