The MA/RS Lab conducts research on topics specifically related to manufacturing system realization and synthesis. Our sponsors include the National Science Foundation , NIST-ATPMotorola, Ford, General Electric, DaimlerChrysler and DCS and others.

A new FESTO microFMS System was installed in the Laboratory.  The System was sponsored by the CoE DIN Program and FESTO Corp.  The FESTO and UW teams participated in the microFMS installation and training. Osman Ozcanli (left), IE undergraduate student, while doing his Independent Study at MA/RS Lab was awarded the 2002 Tong Prototype Prize ($2,500) for his product, Book Hand Pack - O.Z. Pack. Business's student Puneesh Malkani was part of the winning team.


Wenzhen Huang (right), IE Ph.D. student, received the 2002 INFORMS QSR Section Best Student Paper Award, for the paper, "Mode-based Decomposition of Part Form Error by Discrete-Cosine-Transform with Implementation to Assembly and Stamping System with Compliant Parts". This award is given for outstanding research performed while one is enrolled as a graduate student.
