Edit your web site from Windows:
You can edit your web pages from a Windows systems. Once you have run the homepage UNIX script, you can edit and
save files to your web site from a Windows system. Map a network drive, using SAMBA, to your
UNIX disk space and edit this web page, index.shtml
or any of your UNIX files. All your web pages can be found in your public_html folder. Permissions on files
created this way will by default be readable on the internet.
Limit access to your web site:
CAE has two quick ways for you to limit access to areas of your web site. All
files and folders inside a folder with the name of cae-auth require a CAE username and
password to access. If you name the folder uw-only
then access is available to only those viewing your site from computers on the
UW-Madison campus, including the dial-up lines. To create your own personalized
access restrictions read the page on Restricting
Access to Your Web Pages.
