There was no SEC champion in 1984. The title is officially "vacant." Note from Ed in Houston: SEC was under contract with the Sugar Bowl at that time to furnish its conference champion as the host. Florida could not play in the Sugar Bowl and forfeited the conference championship. The SEC honored its contract with the Sugar Bowl by naming LSU as conference champion 'under terms of the Sugar Bowl contract'. LSU alums continue to pick a bone with the SEC commissioner for naming LSU the 'contractual champion' but not the 'official champion'. # On probation, ineligible for SEC championship Members: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt The WWW site thanks the following for the upload: Ramana Kolluri (e-mail address no longer works) David Krysakowski Cy Harris Franceski, Larry
