Unlike type 1 (juvenile diabetes), type 2 is avoidable, but also curable. Thinking that it was the "healthy" thing to do, I had been drinking too much fruit juice (orange, grape, etc.). I thought it was OK because it was 100% juice and not the "juice cocktails" that are mostly corn syrup and water. Yet, as the hospital nutritionist stated, too much juice meant that too much sugar was getting into me. Did you catch the word "hospital?" Yes, I was in the hospital for almost a week (without health insurance, too). My glucose (sugar) level in my blood was over 700 when I went in -- I almost died. To beat the diabetes, I need to get exercise, lose weight, consume low- sugar or no-sugar foods / drinks, avoid white / processed grains (consuming WHOLE grains), and generally eat a more balanced diet with a bigger focus on vegetables. I must take insulin and / or equivalents and test my glucose levels. My cholesterol and triglycerides were also sky-high (common with diabetes), so I'm taking medications for that, too. Of course, I have to see the doctor periodically, too. Bottom line: just because I used to be a distance runner didn't mean I could sit in front of a computer 14 hours per day and get away with it. We all need to get exercise, no matter whether your job allows it or not. My body rebelled during tax season, and I was lucky my staff was able to get so much done without me. Quite a few returns went on extension and my clients were understanding. I now have a "one-speed" bike -- which was less expensive than one with gears, and peddling harder is better anyway. I log in my biking (or other exercise) time along with my glucose readings to be sure I don't miss it too many times. My weight loss isn't going well, but my glucose readings have improved greatly. OK, last year went badly, but I'm still #2 over the last 5 years. However, ... CPA Rankings was #1 for 2003! CPA Rankings was #1 for 2000! CPA Rankings was #1 for the 5-years of 1999-2003! CPA Rankings was #1 for the 3-years of 2001-2003! My NFL preseason info will be on my current NFL page about one week before the regular season begins, since I do consider player performances, etc. during the exhibition games. WHAT'S NEW FOR 2005 (& LATER): The big story in I-A started in 2003 and is still rattling the college football world. The ACC raided the Big East, which had to find teams from other conferences, which also had to grab teams from other conferences. While most of the changes occurred in 2004, several occur this year, too. The addition of Boston College from the Big East allows the ACC to split into "Atlantic" and "Coastal" divisions. CUSA loses several teams but gains a few more and splits into East and West divisions. Transitionals Fla Atlantic and Fla Intl are playing more fully I-A schedules. They both join the Sun Belt, which needed them to offset raids by the WAC, which was raided by CUSA, which was raided by the Big East, which was raided by the ACC. There's more, too. See below. Fla A&M which ALMOST moved to I-A and had played an independent schedule in 2004, is now playing a normal MEAC schedule in 2005. The Great West Conference, which started up in 2004, and was rated by many computers as the best I-AA conference in 2004, after the Atlantic 10, isn't too popular among its members. Northern Colorado leaves it in 2006 for the Big Sky and, by the way, about every other GW team also wants to go to the Big Sky. Why don't those conferences just merge? Also for 2006, Austin Peay leaves the Pioneer Conf. for the Ohio Valley Conf. Southwest Missouri State is renamed, "Missouri State." One more name change, but this was not on my preliminary preseason page: Troy State University dropped "State" from its name and is now "Troy University." Many football ranking systems weren't including the "State" before, anyway.
