Contents: (0) Background on Rating Method Used (1) Playoff & Bowl Schedule and Results (2) Conference Comparison (3) Standings By Conference (3.1) Eastern Section (3.2) Central Section (3.3) Southern Section (3.4) Western Section (4) Overall Standings ---------------------------------------- (0) Background on Rating Method Used The Game Performance Rating (GPR) is used in these standings to sort the Independent teams, to sort the teams in the combined overall standings and to break ties in conference standings. The GPR is defined as the ratings which balance both sides of the formula: Games*GPR = 100(Wins-Losses) + Total Opponent GPR where the only games counted are those where the winner's rating is no more than 100 over the loser's rating. This only defines the GPR within an overall shift of the ratings scale, which is fixed by setting the college football average GPR, and up to widening shifts between any two groups A and B with the properties that (a) All teams are in A or B (b) Teams in A are undefeated against those in B. To fix this, the GPR is defined as the ratings which minimize the spread between the best and worst.
