COURSE DESCRIPTION
Prerequisite: ECE 330, ECE 333 or consent
of instructor. Students are expected to have knowledge in
linear signals and systems, 1-D Fourier Transform, basic
linear algebra, basic probability theory and basic
programming techniques. Knowledge of ECE431 Digital
Signal Processing is desirable.
Goals: This course is designed to give
first-year graduate students and senior undergraduate
students in ECE all the fundamentals in 2-D digital
signal processing with emphasis in image processing
techniques, image filtering design and applications.
Topics:
Image processing fundamentals, human vision system
Digital image enhancement techniques: point
processing, spatial filtering
Digital image enhancement in the Frequency Domain
Digital image restoration, inverse filtering,
Wiener filtering
Color image processing
Wavelets and multi-resolution processing
Digital image compression techniques and
standards: source coding, entropy coding,
transform and predictive coding, JPEG, MPEG
Image Segmentation: edge detection, thresholding,
region segmentation
