Reducing artifacts from compressed digital images Young Kyoo Hwang Jung-Jin Park Abstract In this project, we present a new image recovery algorithm to remove, in addition to blocking, ringing artifacts from compressed images and video. This new algorithm is based on the theory of projections onto convex sets. A new family of directional smoothness constraint sets is defined based on line processes modeling of the image edge structure. The definition of these smoothness sets also takes into account the fact that the visibility of compression artifacts in an image is spatially varying. The projection will be taken on 0, 45, -45 and 90 degree. The artifacts will be reduced from this projection algorithm Actually, the project was used by a student for his project for last year. We don=92t think he had finished this project well because there was no big difference of the image quality after the process compare to the original image. We will show a great improvement of the previous project. Also, we will show improvement of this algorithm.
